Frequently Asked Questions

What Does a Typical Yoga Class Look Like?
Each class begins with a 5–10 minute grounding meditation and/or pranayama (breathwork) to help you arrive fully in the present moment. This is followed by yoga asanas, where at times I will give you the opportunity to explore intuitive movements. The class ends with 5–10 minutes of Savasana—usually a silent meditation.
Is Yoga a Religion?
Yoga is a spiritual and philosophical practice that dates back over 5,000 years to the Indus Valley in India. While it shares many commonalities with Hinduism and Buddhism, yoga itself is not a religion and can be practiced by anyone. Different styles, such as Restorative, Yin, and Vinyasa-based yoga, are offered to suit your individual needs and your body’s abilities.
What is Yoga with a Trauma-Informed Lens?
While I don’t offer formal trauma-informed yoga or yoga therapy, I have chosen to integrate trauma-informed elements into my classes. This includes avoiding essential oils and incense, using music without lyrics, offering alternative shapes so you can choose what feels best for your body, and using invitational language that encourages you to explore different options. Physical touch is kept to a minimum, and I always ask for your consent first. Before offering physical assistance, I will guide you verbally or demonstrate using my own body. Any exceptions will be noted in the class description.
